Clothing sizes are meant to be simple so that you can easily gauge whether they will fit at a glance. That said, not all sizing categories are the same, and sometimes you may come across a size that you have never heard of before.

If you are reading this guide, it is likely you are considering buying a new article of clothing that is size 3XB and you are probably wondering what this means, and if it will be the right fit for you.

Today we will be taking you through what 3XB means on a size chart, and what kind of clothing items you are likely to find in this size.

What is 3xb size?

If you see an article of clothing described as being size 3XB, then this simply means it is one of the largest sizes available for that item. The B stands for big, indicating that the clothes are a larger size than standard 3X garments.

On a size chart, 3XB is an intermediary size between 3X and 4X, which is great for people who cannot get a comfortable fit from either size or have a larger chest, collar size, etc. Almost all clothing companies will offer size 3XB clothes, which is great if this is the right size for you.

But how can you know if you are size 3X or 3XB? In the next section, we will explain the common measurements and sizing conventions found in clothes that are this size, so you know exactly what to expect from this size.

Dimensions of 3xb clothing

The main measurements used to calculate clothing sizes are the circumference of the chest for shirts and the waist for pants. These are the essential measurements you need to take to figure out if size 3XB is the right choice for you.

For 3XB shirts, the chest measures between 54 and 56 inches. Pants in this size will have a waist size between 50 – 52 inches. These are the two measurements you need to take if you want to figure out what size you are.

These are the same dimensions found in shirts that are size 3XLT, where the LT stands for long and tall. Pants in tall sizes are slightly smaller than 3XB pants but have longer legs to accommodate for the extra height.

3xB the same as XXXL

3X is just another way of saying XXXL however, this is different from 3XB. Clothes in these sizes are slightly bigger and wider than your standard XXXL garments. This is what the B is used to indicate, that these clothes are bigger than standard XXXL items.

Other acronyms that are commonly used include LT for long and tall. Clothes that are labeled LT will be made longer and generally a little slimmer to accommodate taller individuals.

3xb vs 3xl

That said, 3X is typically the same size as XXXL, with the letter after the size indicating if the garment has been made wider or longer to fit different body types.

An XB size can be expected to be about half a size to a whole size larger than the standard size without the B. As such. If you are used to wearing XXL shirts, but need something a little bigger, it will be better to try 2XB clothes before going up to XXXL.

Taking measurements for new clothes

Finding new clothes that fit well can be a challenge sometimes, which is why we have included this helpful section on how to take accurate size measurements. This will help you know what size you need to buy, and the best part is you only need a tape measure and a friend to hold it for you.

It is better to have someone else hold the tape measure and read the measurements from it, since it will make it easier to fully relax your body for an accurate result. If your arms are tensed because they are holding the tape, you may not be able to take an accurate measurement of the circumference of your chest. So, without further ado, here are the simple steps required to find out exactly what size clothing is right for you.

How to find your clothing size

Measure The Chest – When calculating your chest size, you need to measure the circumference of your chest. To do this, you need to tuck the tape measure under your armpits, as this is often the widest point. If you don’t have someone to help you take measurements, then you should wrap around your back so that both ends of the tape measure meet in front of you.

Make sure you aren’t puffing out your chest, as this will lead to you buying a much larger shirt than you need.

Make sure the tape measure is tight, but not so tight that it limits your breathing.   If trying to measure for an undergarment, be sure to check out our recent post on how to Measure bra size at home

Measuring The Waste – When measuring your waist, you should always start at the hip bone and bring the tape measure around your body, so it is in line with your belly button. Try to keep the tape measure straight so it doesn’t droop at the back, or you won’t get a fully accurate measurement.

Avoid holding your breath while measuring, as if you do this, you might end up with clothes that require you to hold your breath while wearing them. Since this is something you don’t want unless you are buying a corset or body Plus-size shapewear, you should try to get the tape measure tight enough that it won’t slide down, but still allows you to breathe naturally. Take your measurements immediately after you exhale for the correct size waist.

Take your reading immediately after you exhale for the correct circumference of your waist.

Conclusion

Hopefully after reading this guide, you now understand a bit more about what size 3XB means and if it is suitable for you. You will also hopefully have learned how to take accurate measurements of your chest and waist, so you can easily determine what size you need. This should save a lot of confusion next time you go clothes shopping and ensure you leave the shop with an item that is comfortable and well-fitted.
